What is car sharing?

About Car Sharing

Also known as ‘carpooling’ or ‘ride sharing’, it’s when a driver shares their journey with one or more passenger. These passengers could be family, friends, colleagues, or just someone going the same way, on a commute or just an ad hoc urban journey. It’s different to private hire (taxi / cab) driving as drivers who car share are only allowed to recover the cost of the journey and not make a profit. This rate is determined by the Mileage Allowance Payment set by HMRC which is currently 45p per mile https://www.gov.uk/expenses-and-benefits-business-travel-mileage/rules-for-tax
